MEET OUR PASTOR

Reverend Dr. D. Pennie Damon

Rev. D. Pennie Damon is the daughter of the late Mr. Grover L. Damon and Mrs. Pearlina Slater Damon. She is the youngest of nine children. Although she is single and has no children, she has fifty-one nieces and nephews whom she adores and considers it a joy to nurture. She resides in the Syracuse community of Darlington, South Carolina.

Rev. Damon graduated from Spaulding High School in Lamar, South Carolina. She later graduated from Florence-Darlington Technical College with a clerk-typist diploma. In 1992, she attended Elohim Bible College in Hartsville, South Carolina, where she studied for three years under the leadership of the renowned Bishop Dr. Vera M. Davis. She also studied business administration at Coker College in Hartsville for one year.

Rev. Damon received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of thirteen and has lived faithfully for God throughout her adult life. She is a member of Savannah Grove AME Church in Lamar, where she has served faithfully in many areas.

She accepted God’s call to ministry on August 20, 1998, and preached her initial sermon on December 26, 1998. She was ordained a deacon in September 2002 during the annual conference at Mt. Zion AME Church in Florence, South Carolina.

Rev. Damon served as pastor of Heyward Chapel AME Church in Johnsonville, South Carolina, for three years. She became pastor of Zion Hill AME Church in Lake View on August 31, 2008. She served as pastor of New Spring Hill AME Church in Dillon from November 14, 2009, until November 12, 2016. On November 13, 2016, she became pastor of Mount Hebron AME Church in Pomaria, South Carolina.

In 2004, Rev. Damon graduated from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. She also completed one and a half years of coursework at Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina. She received her Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina, on May 9, 2009. She was ordained an elder on September 4, 2009. To God be the glory! On November 15, 2022, Rev. Damon received her Doctorate of Theology from Fisher Hill Community Bible College in Cheraw, South Carolina.

Rev. Damon’s main goal is to remain in God’s perfect will so that she may be one of the lights that shine in the darkness. Her guiding Scriptures are:

• Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
• Psalm 34:1: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
• Isaiah 26:3: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”
• Isaiah 65:24: “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
